“Bass or Not?” is a fun and interactive identification effort on the Fishbrain website that challenges your fish species knowledge. You’ll be shown photos of different fish and asked to identify their species. You earn points for every guess, correct or not, making it both entertaining and educational.
By contributing, you’re also helping us improve the accuracy of fish species data in the Fishbrain app, contributing to better data quality for the entire fishing community.
To take part in the identification effort, you can optionally select a U.S. state and choose a water type (freshwater or saltwater) or species. If you don't make a selection, you'll be shown a mix of fish species from both water types across all U.S. states.
You can also view a leaderboard to see how your total number of identifications compares to other players. Reaching 1000 accurately identified fish in a month gets you a prize of 1 month of free Fishbrain Pro access and reaching 2500 accurate identifications can lead you to a brand new fishing rod, however this is available for the first 50 users to reach the milestone. Once you get there and your identifications are verified, you’ll get contacted by our Fishbrain staff via DM and email.
